I am going to talk about the Princess Grace Kelly look today, as a French fashion icon. I will so include Monaco Principaty in France, but don’t worry, I know it is two different and independent countries.
Grace Kelly came from America as everybody knows. Muse, actress, mascot of Alfred Hitchcock in his several outstanding movies, she had a real good taste about fashion of fifties. And, to preserve the fact she was a princess, I chose a special look…
What kind of clothes should you wear for a Grace Kelly look ?
What is better than a pink dress from fifties ? Under the guise of it elegance, you can easily go to work with this dress, or to some parties. It is really stylish that’s true, but still kind of ordinary. The cut is perfect for every morphology ; it highlights the waist, your bust, and finally fall in the middle of your calves.
The pink color does not obviously go with every color. This dress from 1950’s that I bought on Amazon exists in other colors, more sober or flashy. What I really liked about this one is it is kind of flashy but doesn’t turn me as a big candy. The trick is to wear it with black other pieces and you will be elegant…
So, I decided to wear it with black high heels and a black jacket from Mod Ecran Collection, and black woolen tights to protect me from cold. With this, you can add a black bag or purse, gloves, hat and scarf or foulard. I was wearing a pink foulard, in the same tones of the pink dress. And if you really want to be a star, just wear sunglasses ! I often wear my black sunglasses New Wayfrayer from Rayban, but it was too cloudy this day.
Finally, about accessories, just stay sober. The dress is already a big touch of elegance and charism, do not overload it with too much accessories… A simple pair of beaded earrings is enough. (I don’t wear it because I don’t have pierced ears).
What about Grace Kelly’s makeup ?
Once again, the outfit is already fun and colored. So, do not wear an intense makeup and prefer a nude and simple one ! You can accentuate a bit your look by making a doe-eye, or only putting a really dark mascara. If you want to remember how I process about the doe-eye, go in my Hepburn article right here. About the mascara, I am using the l’Oréal Volume Extrême.
Finally, for the mouth, stay in natural tones too if you really want to wear something. A sweet pink or gloss is enough, closer of your natural lips color. I am wearing here a nude lipstick from KIKO, that I bought at a low price. It spreads very well and stays a long time on the lips.
And finally, the hairstyle…
I would be glad to tell you that everything is possible ! Because, it depends of why you are wearing this outfit…
First, for a chic cocktail or party, I would advise you to make a low bun, to look like a ballerina. And you will really look like Grace Kelly, who was a fan of “ball” buns.
Otherwise, you are free to do what you want as hairstyle ! Tied braids on your head, a half pony-tail with a beautiful bow… Everything is possible as long as you stay in a Grace Kelly style.
When I made a shooting photo with the great K & Ciboulette, I decided to make a kind of ball bun, which looks like the princess’s ones. Since then, I often wear it because it is ordinary and hold my hair right way from my eyes when it’s windy outside 😉 It suits with every outfit too. For this, I had a donut, that you can find at a low price in H&M for example. During my shooting with Boris Deltell (@sorryformyfrench), you can see it in more details. When I go to work, I prefer wear it low. But you can adapt it despite your desires.
For those who have cut hair, you just have to bring back it on your head and put some hairspray to fix it.
So, we close the fourth post of the Icon Collection, thank you for your attention ! As usual, do not hesitate to see my Instagram profile ; comment by giving me your feelings, like it if it pleases you and share it to your friends !
