Let’s stay in the sixties and seventies with the cute English singer and actress Jane Birkin. The Birkin look comes back in our wardrobes this year, especially thanks to flared pants… Sixties and seventies exploded in fashion, trends, tastes and characters. Everything was possible but still in a kind of sobriety. Having a personal style was the height of respect and elegance !
What kind of clothes to wear for a Jane Birkin look ?
For this Jane Birkin look, I decided to wear brown velvet flared pants. I bought it at low price juste before sales, it is from Kiabi. It is really comfortable… In addition to its flared cut, it is high waisted. Nothing is better to underline the waist and shape your bottom as if you were a movie star !
Then, I associated it with a white shirt from H&M, which is wide and flighty. I put it into my pants, so I added a brown vintage belt that I bought in thrift shops for 5€. In this way, my waist is underlined naturally and the outfit seems to be complete and vintage !
Because of the cold weather, a simple flighty shirt is not enough warm, even if you are next to a radiator… So, I decided to wear a real skin jacket, in the same shade of the pants. I bought it in thrift shops too for 10€, a very good deal because it is not damaged !
Finally, I opted for my brown high heels with little fringes, still in the same shade. Because of winter and because I am easily cold especially on feet, I wear gray discreet basic socks. Thanks to the flared pants, we don’t really see it and it protects my feet.
About the bag, you can take another tone, like black for example, but you need to remind it with another piece ; a black hat for example or a black shirt. I took my Lancel brown bucket bag. Yes, it is a lot of brown but it is a warm color, which fights against cold winter… But if you really want to look like Jane Birkin, take a wicker basket !
Finally, when I go out, I wear a brown classic coat that I bought few years ago at Zara, and I take my oversize scarf, bought in an underground’s shop (yes it is !).
What about the make up ?
Jane Birkin had not a lot of make up in her face. She liked a natural look instead of intense look. So, I unified my complexion with an adapted powder from HEMA. Then, I just put a little of black mascara on my eyelashes, and nothing more elsewhere. Finally, on my mouth, I just put a coral gloss from H&M (which cost less than a euro…)
Bonus on my side, my eyeglasses ! I saved some old vintage glasses of my mother, which come from seventies or eighties. The cat ears (or butterfly) form and tortoiseshell color reinforce the vintage and personal style to my outfit. even if I would prefer seeing correctly ! 😉
And finally, the hairstyle…
Nothing is easier than it ! With the Jane’s fringe or not, just have unleashed hair. I tried to straighten mine a bit, and I made a middle parting. But you can also try the zig-zag one or make a high relaxed bun.
