How can I speak about vintage influence without evoking the wonderful Audrey Hepburn… Her look, her make-up, her hairstyle, everything is a source of inspiration ! To illustrate this article, my photographer and friend, Elsa Eglin, and I went to the Jardin des Plantes in the 5th district. Despite the horrible cold weather, there were some sunny places…
First, clothes and style of Audrey Hepburn…
Too bad for me, I am not going to wear a Givenchy dress ! Audrey Hepburn was often wearing beautiful dresses in her different movies. But, it was not her only outfit. She was wearing as daily suit casual clothes, but still elegant. She loved to mix it with a trench coat, foulard and flat shoes. I decided to show you one of her outfit when she was a dancer.
That’s why I wear gray cigarette pants from Benetton, king of short and tight on ankles. With that, I wear a wide black turtleneck sweater from Les 3 Suisses. The large collar clears the neck, and let the nice head port appears.
Then, I wear black tights in wool (because of the cold !) and black studded mocassin that I bought during sales in André.
About accessories, just stay kind of natural. Audrey Hepburn as I said before was a simple woman. So, I wear a black velvet jacket from Cyrilius. In addition to this, I chose to wear a black leather bag from Quai 71 that I bought during these last sales. Nothing can be simpler than it, as Audrey Hepburn could be !
Then, Audrey Hepburn’s makeup
Be careful, we are going to talk about the pet peeve of makeup apprentices. And especially for beginners like me, who never make themselves up… The famous doe-eye ! It is not appropriate to every eye, and it has to be made with precision, to do not make the eye smaller than it is… But, even if I have two left hands, I succeeded (and this is a miracle).
I advise beginners to start with a felt liner.I bought mine at HEMA for less than 5€ and it is working so well. It is not dry and It can make straight lines and easy modifications. For seasoned girls, just know that it exists as brush liner too for a low price…
You have to apply first a clear base on your eye, and unify your complexion. Use a base one tone clearer than your natural complexion for eyes, and a powder for the rest of your face and your neck. I prefer using powder but if you prefer liquid foundation, do what you want !
You can find a lot of tutorials on Pinterest or Youtube, but the training is your best friend in this situation. I always begin my line in the middle of my upper eyelid, and I go to the external corner. Then, I make a little peak to form the doe eye, and I complete the line and try to do not shrink my eye.
I won’t lie to you… To look like the elegant Audrey Hepburn, the liner must be thin. Use a Q-tip to erase drips and correct your line.
And finally, the hairstyle !
As you may see in my other posts (BB and Birkin looks), I have long hair. Long and curly blonde hair, and kind of impossible to raise. But, hair buns inspired by Audrey Hepburn are easy to make, but can be adapted to every type of hair ! I have been patient and I have trained a lot, but nowadays I often wear buns, for work, shopping, parties…This is a touch of elegance and refinement, worthy of a ballerina.
So I introduce you a ballerina bun she was wearing outside of scenes when she had quite long hair. So I created a kind of strand that I fixed with hair-grip on one side. I finish with a pony-tail and group my hair as a low bun.
